Geumgang Scenic Line 8
Aquatic Botanical Garden
Bangasil Aquatic Botanical Garden Bangasil is the final village where the Geumgang River bids farewell as it flows through Okcheon. This neighborhood, belonging to Daejeong-ri in Gunbuk-myeon administratively, earned its name because its shape resembles the zigzag pattern of a folding fan, with three branches. Behind the village, there is a steep mountain called Flower Peak (282 m) that is known by that name. South of the peak is Okcheon, while north of the peak is Daejeon, with the summit serving as a reference point. The deep and blue Geumgang River radiates its greatest charm at this boundary. A river width of about 400 m is sufficient for urban residents’ stress relief. The changing colors of the surrounding mountains throughout the four seasons entice romantic travelers to set off on their journey. This charm can be fully enjoyed at the aquatic plant learning center, which is established on a site of approximately 60,000 square meters at the eastern end of the village. Since 2003, five households in the village have come together with a common goal to create this place centered around water and life. Here, visitors can observe various aquatic plants. It is also designated as a science experiential learning center by the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education. Various places such as the grass square, weathered sedimentary rock, lotus pond, wildflower room, European-style buildings, and indoor garden are ideal for taking photos. Among them, the highlight is the photo zone with the backdrop of the beautiful Daecheongho Lake and the Geumgang River.
