Geumgang River's artistic meander...
Korean Peninsula from Dunjubong Peak
before ascending to the summit of Dunjubong Peak (384 m) If you climb up to the observation deck around the seventh ridge of Dunjubong Peak (384 m), which stands tall in Annam-myeon, you can overlook the Korean peninsula-like terrain created by the meandering flow of the Geumgang River. The distance from top to bottom of terrain, as seen from here, is 1.45 km, which is a reduced 1/980 scale of the actual size of the Korean Peninsula. Although the shapes of the East Sea and West Sea appear to be reversed, when viewed through the large telescope installed at the observation deck, the geographical features of sunrise in the east and sunset in the west are similar to those of the Korean Peninsula. On clear days, in the distance to the south, you can see the peak of Deogyusan Mountain in Muju-gun, and to the southwest, the summit of Seodaesan Mountain in Geumsan-gun. If you turn your head to the northeast, you can even see the Cheonwangbong Peak of Songnisan Mountain, Boeun-gun. Okcheon is considered the center of South Korea, and Dunjubong Peak, located in one corner of Okcheon, holds great symbolic significance as a key tourist attraction in Okcheon. To climb Dunjubong Peak, you can start from the Annam-myeon Administrative Welfare Center (46 Yeonju-gil, Annam-myeon) as a starting point. By walking approximately 1.3 km along the road between the center and the neighboring Annam Elementary School, you will come across the entrance to the hiking trail, marked by 119 wooden steps.
